About YPM

About YPM | The Executive Board | Committees | Chapters

WHAT IS YPM?
Young Progressive Majority (YPM) is a social network of 22-39 year-olds dedicated to increasing voter turnout for local and state elections. We provide information and community built on shared our values. Through YPM, politics is accessible and demystified.

WHO IS YPM?
YPM is made up of a diverse group of young people who are informed, progressive and looking to use their collective voice in the city they call home. Our members tend to be young professionals (artists, doctors, business owners) who are focused on careers, starting families and becoming homeowners - and are no longer part of a traditional, set community, such as being in college. Founded in the wake of the 2004 election, the YPM community has over 2,000 members in Southern California, and chapters in Kern & Ventura, CA and Minneapolis, MN. YPM is run by a talented panel of volunteers who make up the Executive Board - click to check out their bios filled with movie picks, passions, vices and more.

WHAT DOES YPM DO?
Educate + Act + Party with Purpose

  • WE EDUCATE ourselves, our friends and our peers about local progressive issues and candidates through local voter guides and by hosting local leaders and officials to speak at our events.
  • WE ACT as a group to vote, register new voters, and spread info through our social networks.
  • WE PARTY WITH PURPOSE in concert venues, living rooms, and even roller skating rinks- YPM comes together to connect our members with progressive information, resources, and volunteer opportunities.

We like to talk politics over drinks, share info and action ideas, and most of all… WE VOTE. And we vote local.

WHY YPM?
Our age group almost never votes in local elections. Generally, we only really vote for President, or Governor, but we are missing where our true power lies… at the local level. If we vote consistently and collectively for progressive leaders and issues at a local level, we will shape our City, our State, and, ultimately, the direction of our country.

When we found out that 75% of local politicians move up to State and Federal positions, we realized that we had to get busy voting at home. As locally elected progressives grow in power, so will we. The power of young voters has never been more clear: the last two presidential elections have been decided by less than 2% of the vote. By increasing young, progressive voter turnout we will change the political landscape of our country.
