Come out and fight the good fight. A lot of us were feeling mixed emotions Tuesday night with the passing of Prop 8 amidst many victories for the progressive movement. Don’t just feel sad, take to the streets and voice your outrage that bigotry and hatred are alive and well and being added to our state’s constitution.

If you’ve been paying attention to Olbermann or the Huffington Post, you might have seen that another group with the same acronym as us just got busted for voter fraud.
That’s right, folks! YPM, the Young Political Majors, has been caught breaking the law on behalf of the GOP, erroneously and illegally transferring voter registrations to the Republicans.

Let’s be really clear, and let’s not overstate the obvious: We, the Young Progressive Majority (YPM), are NOT party to the voter fraud and have NO affiliation with this evil twin YPM.

We are, always and forever, a non-partisan organization dedicated to demystifying local politics for young people. In fact, we have suspicions that they have co-opted our name to attract young voters. We, the real YPM, are small, but we fiercely believe that our YPM is the future of politics, and theirs is the past. The dominance of the politics of fraud and deceit is coming to an end; the politics of being informed, progressive and involved is the future. We believe in our message, we know that it resonates with our community, and find it telling that their YPM is getting arrested, and ours is throwing a party. The party is our “80’s Dancercise Ballot Bash” on October 29th at The Echo in Echo Park, 1822 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026. YPM will be on the dancefloor handing out Voter Guides and continuing to foster the young, progressive, involved, Los Angeles community.

LA Weekly’s Detour Music Festival

This year Detour will feature over 25 acts on 4 outdoor stages, plus vendors and art installations, spread across 6 city blocks around City Hall. Confirmed bands include genre-bending proggies The Mars Volta and irrepressible Gypsy-punk collective Gogol Bordello. Take the Metro (there’s a stop just steps away); stroll the streets, drink-in-hand; and celebrate our own world-class music festival.
